Graduate of Purdue University with Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, 1969. Currently registered as Professional Engineer in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Member of National Society of Professional Engineers, American Water Work Association, Water Pollution Control Federation, Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, Michigan Association of County Drain Commissioners.
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Engaged as consulting engineer for the past 35 years working for public and private clients in the area of municipal public works projects and land development engineering. Before moving to St. Joseph, Michigan had responsibility for complete design and field services of various sized commercial projects, industrial parks and residential subdivisions in the Chicago, Illinois area. Since residing in Southwestern Michigan for the past 30 years, has been responsible for municipal and private client water and sewer system network design, extension and rehabilitation, street and drainage improvements, extensive water treatment plant renovation, county drain improvements, subdivision development and design, and recreational parks.

Graduate of Michigan Technological University, 1973 with Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Currently registered as a Professional Engineer in Michigan. Member of the American Water Works Association, National Society of Professional Engineers. Certified Construction Site Storm Water Operator in the State of Michigan.
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Engaged in consulting engineering work for 32 years in all phases of projects engineering for various sized commercial, industrial, and residential projects for both public and private clients. While working for a consulting firm in the Chicago area, was the engineer responsible for topographic surveying, construction layout, and inspection of streets, watermain, storm and sanitary sewer construction for large (100+acres) residential subdivisions and industrial parks. Since joining Merritt Engineering, Inc. in 1982, has been engaged as design and project engineer for a number of utility projects (watermain, sanitary sewer, streets, storm drains, etc.) mainly for public usage. Has overseen the planning, design and construction of a number of residential subdivisions, mobile home parks, condominium developments, and industrial parks for private and municipal clients throughout Southwestern Michigan.

Member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, Member of City of St. Joseph Construction Board of Appeals, City of St. Joseph Property Maintenance Board of Appeals, and Chikaming Township Construction Board of Appeals. Employed with Merritt Engineering since 1991. Areas of responsibility include: municipal water system study and design, hydraulic modeling, pump station design, sanitary sewer and drainage system design; condominium, subdivision and mobile home park development; roadway design and rehabilitation; topographic surveys; site plan development; and construction administration.

WARREN A. PETERSON, P.E.

Graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1983. Registered Professional Engineer in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Employed at Merritt Engineering since 2006. Areas of responsibility include: environmental permitting, environmental remediation, and project management. Extensive experience working with federal, state and local regulatory agencies in the planning and execution of a broad range of industrial, commercial, municipal civil and environmental projects. Experienced in cleanups and closures of Brownfield industrial and commercial properties under multiple state voluntary cleanup programs.
 
Certified Professional with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for underground storage tank programs; trained in OSHA hazardous waste health and safety; and extensive experience with Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments.

JOHN A. NELSON
Project Manager
 
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Technology in 1983. Certified Construction Site Storm Water Operator in the State of Michigan.
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Engaged in consulting engineering for the past 22 years. Extensive experience in design, processing permits and overseeing construction inspection for a wide variety of projects. Projects include: utility and drainage systems, subdivision, parks, private site development, airports and highway construction. Having a wide range of knowledge in site construction, agency interaction and review of projects helps to insure goals are successfully achieved. Joined Merritt Engineering in 2004.

BRENNEN J. DUNCAN
Design - Field Engineer
 
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2006. Passed the FE/EIT exam in 2005.
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Five years of construction design, layout, observation and related civil engineering services working with Merritt Engineering, Inc. while attending high school and college. Current responsibilities, since receiving his degree include: topographic surveying, field staking, layout and inspection of sanitary sewer, storm sewer, watermain and roadways. Current responsibilities include construction services, as well as site plan and public utility design under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer.

JAMES H. PODJAN II
Field Technician / Resident Project Representative
 
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of Saint Joseph High School and attended Lake Michigan College.
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
More than ten years of construction layout and observation, and related civil engineering services. Responsibilities include: field staking and grading procedures in the construction of roads, sanitary sewer, watermain and storm sewer; inspection procedures for sanitary sewer, watermain and forcemain installation and testing, as well as topographic survey work. Setup and installation of monitoring equipment for sewer and water facilities. Experience with federally funded projects includes: Third Street and Bell Avenue reconstruction in Niles Township; Mall Drive reconstruction in Benton Charter Township; John Beers Road reconstruction in the Village of Stevensville; and Kruger Road Watermain, New Buffalo Township.
